These findings where published in publisher BioMed Central’s peer-reviewed Cell Division journal.

The study examined how DHA (docosahexanoic acid), a omega 3 fatty acid affected solid tumors growing in mice and how it interacted with the chemotherapy drug, cisplatin. The study examined at the molecular level how DHA reduces the accumulation of white blood cells, inflammation and a harmful condition noted by decreased antioxidant levels; all of which have been linked to tumor growth.

The study also showed that the omega-3 fatty acid also reduced the damage to kidney tissue which is usually caused by the chemotherapy drug.

We will continue to keep you up to date with future discoveries and studies that fish oil benefits continue to prove effective.

If you don’t already know methane which is produce by cows and other animals is 20 times more powerful of a greenhouse gas than Carbon Dioxide.

This new study claims, when including 2% fish oil in the cow’s diet, the methane emissions that are produced from these animals are greatly reduced.

According to Dr. Lorraine Lillis from the University College Dublin:

The fish oil affects the methane-producing bacteria in the rumen part of the cow’s gut, leading to reduced emissions.

FISH OIL contains omega-3 fatty acids which have been instrumental in human health, but has also proven beneficial to the heart and circulatory systems of livestock animals as well.

It’s appearing that we are hearing about new benefits of fish oil on very frequent basis

The study that was conducted tested a 1-gram daily dose of prescription highly purified omega-3 fatty acid. This is known as the good fat contained in some oil fish that is said to help benefit the heart.

Fish Oil and placebo’s was given to 3,800 people who had suffered a heart attack in the past two weeks. These patients were already receiving medication to help prevent future heart attacks. These medications included cholesterol drugs, anti-clotting and aspirins.

After a year long study of some patients taking placebos and others taking fish oil supplements there was no difference in either group. Fewer than 2 percent suffered cardiac death, while four percent had another heart attack, and few than two percent actually suffered a stroke.

If patients are already getting good care and receiving the necessary medications to prevent future heart attacks, there is almost nothing that you can do, that will enchance your chances to eliminate the chances of a future heart attack.

By no means does this play down the benefits of fish oil. The research that was conducted did not address whether or not fish oil can help prevent heart disease.

The Omega-3 fatty acids are found in wild oily fish such as tune, sardines, macherel, herring, etc. Many scientists believe that it raises HDL (good cholesterol) and lowers harmful fats know as triglycerides. It is believed to slow the growth of plaque buildup that can block arteries.

This study was focused on patients that had already suffered heart attacks. These patients were not known to be taking fish oil prior to this study.

Omega-3 fatty acids, which are plentiful in dark, oily fish, are greatly known to fight heart disease. These Omega-3 fatty acids have also shown promise in protecting against cancers of the colon, rectum and ovary. Previous studies have proved that these fish oils have blocked the growth of Prostate Cancer cells in laboratory animals and dishes. Prostate Cancer was found less often in gentlemen who had high levels of fatty acids in their blood.

In a large number of studies, prescription fish oil has been proven to improve the survival after heart attacks and the reduction of fatal heart rhythms.

In the United States, heart attack victims are not generally given omega-3 fatty acids, even as they are offered other more evasive procedures such as pills to lower cholesterol or implantable defibrillators.

Prescription fish oil is not even approved by the FDA to be used in patients who have suffered heart attacks. Most cardiologists are not giving omega-3’s to the patients even though there is data that supports it. There is trully a disconnect.

It is imperative that if you are not eating enough fish if any, then you should consider taking a fish oil supplement.

Age-related macular degeneration.

Dry eye syndrome

Macular degeneration is the disruption of the center of the retina, the fine nerve net at the back of the eye which is essential for all fine visual tasks. Macular degeneration is the leading cause of age-related blindness.

People think how could fish oil protect my eyes from age-related macular degeneration? The reasoning could be that a component of fish oil is docosahexaenoic acid — DHA for short. It’s one of the omega-3 fatty acids linked to other fish oil benefits of health. Oddly enough, DHA builds up near light-sensing nerve cells within the eye.

Dry eye syndrome is when a person’s eyes do not make enough tears. This could lead to scarring of the cornea and ultimate vision loss.

All in all we continue to discover how fish oil benefits our bodies in different ways!

Babies with bowel troubles can be fed intravenously, but most quickly develop liver problems. Liver transplant is usually the most common solution, but sometimes even with one these babies don’t make it to their first birthdays. It’s been long known that intravenous fluid that helped keep the babies alive called parenteral nutrition was also eating away at their livers. The doctors at Children’s Hospital discovered why total parenteral nutrition seemed to have been causing these problems and how to fix it. The doctors swapped the IV feedings, giving the babies fluids with fish oils, known as omega-3’s, instead of the standard plant oils, or omega-6. Within weeks, the babies livers began to rebound, and they no longer needed transplants. If this discovery is accurate and the plant oils that are totally safe when eaten become toxic when delivered to the system undigested, this finding might hold implications for other babies with diseased bowels and even for adults who are dependent on intravenous feeding. Roughly 30,000 people a year are affected. Liver disease is a common problem among adults fed intravenously!
